Mako Capital Group, a new Miami-based private equity firm, has officially launched with three co-founders including Oscar Munoz, the former chairman and CEO of United Airlines. The firm will target businesses generating $5 million to $15 million of EBITDA and deploy $25 million to $50 million of equity per transaction.

Mako's initial investments include Mangrove Health, a Florida-based provider of preventative care and wellness services, and Arbor Reciprocal Exchange, an insurance provider for Texas homeowners. The dual focus on healthcare and property insurance reflects a strategy targeting defensive, recession-resistant sectors.

Munoz brings significant credibility from his tenure leading United Airlines through a period of major transformation. The firm's lower middle market focus places it among a crowded field of PE players competing for similar-sized deals, though Munoz's executive background may provide differentiation in sourcing opportunities.
