Norbec, a prefabricated cold room manufacturer backed by Sagard Private Equity Canada, has acquired Canadian Curtis, a designer and builder of walk-in coolers and freezers. Norbec announced the acquisition of Canadian Curtis, a company established in 1934 based in Stoney Creek, Ontario. Canadian Curtis operations will cease, integrating its staff into Norbec's existing business. Norbec will welcome affected employees for continued roles where possible, including opportunities at its Strathroy, Ontario facility. The move strengthens Norbec's Ontario presence and supports its growth strategy by expanding local market access and service capabilities, as stated by the company.

While financial terms were not disclosed, the acquisition provides Norbec with access to Canadian Curtis's specialized refrigeration expertise and customer base within the food service sector. Founded in 1982 and headquartered in Boucherville, Quebec, Norbec manufactures insulated panels and doors for building envelopes. The closure of Canadian Curtis's manufacturing operations represents a consolidation within the specialized cold storage supply chain, focusing expertise under the Norbec umbrella.

The integration of Canadian Curtis's workforce and systems into Norbec's operations marks a strategic consolidation for both companies. Norbec gains immediate scale and geographic reach in Ontario, a key market for cold storage solutions. The deal reflects a trend of consolidation among mid-sized players in the specialized building envelope and cold storage manufacturing sectors, aiming to improve efficiency and service offerings for clients like restaurants and food processors.
