Motive Partners confirmed a strategic purchase of UK pension platform Mobius from private‑equity owner Phoenix Equity Partners. The deal, slated to close later this year pending customary conditions, transfers control of a service that caters to institutional investors, wealth managers and individual savers across defined benefit, defined contribution and personal pension schemes, targeting assets that generate recurring fees.

Mobius administers more than £30 billion in assets, giving the buyer a foothold in a market where pension funds are consolidating around technology‑enabled platforms. For Motive, the acquisition expands its European fintech portfolio and provides cross‑sell opportunities to its existing wealth‑tech clients. Phoenix Equity Partners exits a mature asset, freeing capital for new investments, and to pilot AI tools for pension managers and data analytics.

The transaction underscores growing private‑equity interest in the UK retirement sector, where fee pressure and regulatory change push providers toward scale and digital capability. With £30 billion under administration, Mobius offers Motive immediate exposure to a sizable client base and a platform that can be further upgraded. Closing this year will cement Motive’s presence in the pension‑tech space, with robust API will aid integration with Motive’s suite.
