Hoffmann Family of Companies has bought Cedar Crest Ice Cream, the Cedarburg, Wisconsin dairy founded in 1976. The purchase, announced without a disclosed price, keeps the brand under family stewardship. The transaction aligns with Hoffmann’s strategy to consolidate regional dairy brands under a management structure.

Renato De Paolis, chief executive of Oberweis Dairy, a Hoffmann portfolio company, will assume leadership of Cedar Crest. The move also lets Oberweis tap Cedar Crest’s seasonal flavors and community ties. His appointment signals an effort to integrate the ice‑cream maker with Oberweis’ established distribution network and supply chain expertise, potentially raising operational efficiency and expanding market reach for both brands.

The deal broadens Hoffmann’s footprint in the premium ice‑cream segment, giving it a foothold in the Midwest’s boutique market. By adding Cedar Crest’s brand equity to its existing dairy assets, Hoffmann can leverage cross‑selling opportunities and strengthen bargaining power with retailers. Analysts note the combined scale could improve pricing power with national chains.
