Acorn Capital Management has agreed to acquire a majority stake in MTI Aviation, a Miami-based maintenance, repair and overhaul provider serving the aviation industry. The deal marks the first platform investment for Acorn's Fund VI, signaling the private equity firm's renewed push into the aerospace and defense sector.

Greg Agnew, a partner at Acorn Capital, said MTI represents a compelling platform aligned with their strategy of investing in highly differentiated aerospace and defense businesses with strong growth potential. The firm's founder and CEO Jorge Mejia will remain a significant shareholder and continue leading the company, providing operational continuity for the MRO provider.

The acquisition reflects growing private equity appetite for aviation MRO services, driven by robust demand for aircraft maintenance as global air travel continues its recovery trajectory. MTI's specialized capabilities in the Miami market position it well to capture growth in commercial aviation services, with the deal highlighting PE firms' focus on acquiring established operators with strong management teams in place.
