Infrastructure Leadership in Flux

Hans-Martin Aerts has departed APG after 25 years as the €639bn Dutch pension asset manager's longstanding Asia-Pacific infrastructure head, just a month after its global infrastructure lead exited. Despite the geopolitical turbulence, Industriens Pension's head of infrastructure Mikkel Kjaersgaard insists it is "business as usual" for the €37bn Danish fund, which continues to lean on co-investments and secondaries to build exposure.

Record Fundraising

ECP has closed its largest vehicle, ECP VI, at $8.1bn — more than 50% above target in just 18 months, according to chief investment officer Tyler Reeder. In a separate launch, Agallas Equities is planning a $5bn Caribbean-focused inaugural infrastructure fund targeting major projects in the Dominican Republic and the surrounding region, which has already drawn early interest from Gulf state family offices.

Consolidation & M&A

Aware Super is in talks to merge with Prime Super, a deal that would push the Australian fund past A$250bn in AUM by adding Prime's approximately A$8bn pool of capital. In healthcare, Altaris has announced it will acquire Clarivate's Life Sciences & Healthcare business, expanding its footprint in the sector.

Perception Shifts

Transport packaging assets challenge purist definitions of infrastructure, but it is ultimately for LPs to decide whether they accept delivery of such strategies. The flurry of fundraising, leadership changes, and consolidation suggests investors are reassessing both the boundaries of the asset class and the teams best positioned to execute within it.
