Meta’s new Threads app has overtaken X (formerly Twitter) in global daily mobile usage, according to Similarweb data released January 7, 2026. Threads logged 141.5 million daily active users on iOS and Android, surpassing X’s 125 million. The shift occurred between late October and early November 2025 after steady growth for users worldwide today.

While X still dominates the U.S. mobile market, its daily active base has dropped to roughly half of last year’s figure, as Threads gains traction. On the web, X retains a decisive lead with 145.4 million daily visitors versus Threads’ 8.5 million, keeping total daily users above 270 million for X versus 150 million for Threads.

Threads’ mobile rise signals a shift in user preference toward Instagram‑linked platforms, potentially reshaping advertising strategies and data monetization models. For consumers, the trend offers a more integrated social feed, while advertisers may need to recalibrate budgets. Industry watchers will monitor how X responds and whether Threads can sustain momentum beyond mobile.
