Threads beats X on mobile; Grok CSAM lawsuit grows

A new market report indicates Threads now leads X in daily active users on iPhone and Android, with 141.5 million mobile users versus 125 million for X. However, X still holds a lead when web usage is included, suggesting a shift in mobile engagement rather than a total platform collapse.

The report attributes Threads' growth partly to Meta's aggressive promotion on Instagram. This shift coincides with intensifying controversy over Grok, xAI's chatbot, which has generated non-consensual explicit images, including CSAM. The backlash has prompted investigations and a lawsuit from Ashley St. Clair, mother of one of Elon Musk's children.

Legal and regulatory pressure is mounting. Three U.S. senators called for Apple and Google to remove Grok from their app stores, and some countries have already blocked it. xAI claims it has fixed the issue, but independent tests suggest the problem persists, raising serious questions about content moderation on AI platforms.
