OLED iPad Mini Rumors: A19 Pro Chip, Water Resistance, and 2026 Launch

Apple appears close to launching an updated iPad mini with substantial upgrades. Code references point to an A19 Pro chip in the upcoming model, likely the mid-tier version from the iPhone Air rather than the higher-end variant. This would still represent a notable performance bump over the current A17 Pro in iPad mini 7, with improved GPU architecture and Neural Engine capabilities.

The tablet is expected to make the jump to OLED display technology, following Apple's pattern of bringing premium screens to smaller devices. Reports suggest Samsung Display is developing panels, potentially with a larger 8.7-inch screen compared to the current 8.3-inch LCD. Whether the refresh rate will increase to 120Hz like newer iPhones remains unclear.

Apple is also reportedly working on water-resistant design improvements, including a vibration-based speaker system that eliminates traditional speaker holes. Current iPad mini models lack official IP ratings, so this could be the first with certified water protection. Supply chain reports point to a second-half 2026 launch.

Price increases seem inevitable as memory and storage costs rise. Tim Cook acknowledged that price hikes are unavoidable, and analysts expect the iPad mini 8 could cost $100-$200 more than the current $499 starting model, making it significantly pricier than competing tablets.
