Notion Switches to SwiftUI for Better Mac Performance at WWDC 2026

Apple confirmed at WWDC 2026 that Notion is migrating its macOS interface to SwiftUI, abandoning its Electron-based architecture for native performance and design consistency. The productivity platform, known for combining notes, databases, and project management tools, has faced criticism for sluggishness on Mac devices.

Notion began shifting its mobile apps away from web-based rendering in 2025, with most iOS and Android features now running natively except the editor. This desktop migration represents a significant expansion of that effort, using SwiftUI as the target framework for improved responsiveness.

Apple emphasized that AI-assisted coding tools are making such transitions more feasible, stating that porting code to Swift has become easier than ever. The company showcased several SwiftUI enhancements including twice-as-fast nested stack resizing, lazy state object initialization, and automatic HTTP caching for AsyncImage components.

Additional improvements include reorderable containers, swipe actions in any view, and full-fidelity text selection on iOS. macOS Text views now support custom renderers and vertical text layouts. These updates arrive as Apple unifies SwiftUI, AppKit, and UIKit under a common foundation, ensuring performance gains in first-party apps benefit third-party developers building on the platform.
