Apple has added two new animated wallpapers to the third developer beta of macOS 27 Golden Gate. The Golden Gate Sunset and Golden Gate Night options join the abstract Golden Gate wallpaper that shipped with the initial beta in June, expanding the location-themed collection that gives the release its name.

Both new wallpapers animate during the unlock sequence and double as screen savers. Golden Gate Sunset depicts waves breaking on rocks near the bridge, while Golden Gate Night shows traffic flowing across the span. Apple has historically expanded themed wallpaper collections across beta cycles, suggesting more variants may arrive before the fall release.

The update arrives as Apple positions Golden Gate as a performance-focused release in the vein of Snow Leopard, emphasizing quicker AirDrop transfers, faster network file browsing, improved Messages syncing, and sharper Spotlight suggestions. The OS remains developer-only for now, with a public beta expected imminently.

For users, the wallpapers are a cosmetic addition that showcases Apple's attention to motion design on Apple silicon. The real test will be whether the under-the-hood refinements deliver noticeable speed gains on M-series Macs when the final version ships later this year.
