macOS 27 Brings Siri Overhaul, Touch Interface, and Intel Mac Cutoff

Apple will debut macOS 27 at its WWDC 2026 keynote on June 8, marking what appears to be a transformative release for the Mac platform. The update will arrive alongside iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and watchOS 12, with the first developer beta dropping immediately after the keynote and a public beta following in July. A wide release to all users is expected in September, though the official naming convention remains under wraps—macOS 26 carries the "Tahoe" moniker.

Siri is getting a major overhaul. macOS 27 will include a dedicated Siri app with conversation history, making Apple's assistant more competitive with OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google Gemini. The update should also deliver the personalized Siri features Apple first previewed at WWDC 2024, allowing users to ask about flights or reservations based on data from Mail and Messages. Google Gemini will power broader Apple Intelligence features beyond the enhanced Siri.

Apple is also preparing macOS for touch input, reportedly optimizing the interface for a rumored touchscreen MacBook Pro or "MacBook Ultra" arriving in early 2027. Touch interactions will trigger contextual menus around the user's finger, with menu bar controls enlarging for easier tapping. Unlike recent flashy releases, macOS 27 focuses heavily on stability and bug fixes—reminiscent of 2009's Snow Leopard—with improvements to underlying performance and Liquid Glass design. The release also marks the end of an era: only Apple silicon Macs (M1 and newer) will be supported, and AirPort Time Capsule users must migrate to modern SMB storage protocols.
