iPhone XX 2027: Key Design & Hardware Shifts

The latest episode of The MacRumors Show previews Apple’s 20th‑anniversary iPhone, dubbed iPhone XX. Rumors suggest a radical overhaul in 2027, possibly skipping iPhone 19 and positioning the new model above the iPhone 18 Pro lines. The design is expected to be Apple’s biggest since the iPhone X.

Sources report a near‑bezel‑less chassis with curved glass that wraps around all four edges and a return to a glass back, a concept championed by former design chief Jony Ive. The frame may use a thin polished band of material other than aluminum, and the display will curve along the sides. Apple plans a front with no visible cutouts, though an under‑display camera and shrinking Dynamic Island are likely to appear.

Internally, the anniversary model will ship with a second‑generation A21 chip, a 2‑nanometer process, and a rumored 6,000mAh battery. Apple is also developing a custom image sensor to replace Sony units, and reverse wireless charging could allow the phone to top up AirPods or an Apple Watch.

While the iPhone 18 Pro receives a modest refresh, the 20th‑anniversary flagship is slated for a fall 2027 launch, following the spring releases of the iPhone 18, 18e, and iPhone Air 2. Listeners can catch the full discussion on Apple Podcasts or the show’s YouTube channel.
