iPhone 18 Pro May Get Thicker

The upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are reportedly set to increase in thickness compared to their predecessors. Leaks suggest the aluminum frame and camera housing will grow, potentially adding around 2mm to the overall device dimensions. This would bring the thickness closer to 9.9–10.9mm, a notable jump from the current 8.75mm of the iPhone 17 Pro models.

The increased bulk is attributed to a redesigned main camera system, which is expected to feature Apple's first variable aperture lens. This component is rumored to be significantly more expensive, costing Apple 50% more than current fixed-aperture lenses, with production ramping up at suppliers like LG Innotek and Sunny Optical.

Despite the potential increase in size, the iPhone 18 Pro lineup is expected to retain its aluminum alloy construction. However, a leaker also warned that new color options might be susceptible to discoloration and surface chipping, issues previously reported with some iPhone 17 Pro units. The iPhone 18 Pro models are anticipated to launch alongside Apple's first foldable iPhone this September.
