Google is aggressively integrating AI into its Chrome browser, aiming to keep pace with competitors like Microsoft Edge and Opera. A key update is the new Gemini side panel, replacing the previous floating window. This persistent panel lets users access the AI assistant while keeping their main browsing tab open, making multitasking easier.

Chrome's latest update also introduces Nano Banana integration, Google's AI image generator, allowing users to transform images directly within the browser using text prompts. However, the most compelling new feature is the "auto browse" capability, currently available to AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the U.S. This agentic tool can handle complex, multi-step tasks.

"Auto browse" can manage tasks like researching prices, filling out forms, and scheduling appointments. It can even identify items in photos and add them to shopping carts, all while staying within a set budget. The feature also uses Chrome's password manager with user permission.

Looking ahead, Google plans to add Personal Intelligence to Chrome, letting the browser remember context from past conversations for more personalized assistance. While the exact release date for all these features is unclear, the side panel and Nano Banana are rolling out now. This move positions Google in the ongoing AI browser arms race.
