Fortnite Returns to iOS, Epic Signals Final Apple Clash

Fortnite has returned to the App Store in every country except Australia, signaling the endgame of Epic Games’ legal fight with Apple. Epic pushed the move after Apple admitted in a Supreme Court filing that regulators worldwide would scrutinize its commission rates. CEO Tim Sweeney framed the comeback as a jab at the so‑called Apple Tax for developers and players worldwide today now.

The rollout follows Fortnite’s May 2025 U.S. reinstatement, which came after District Judge Yvonne González Rogers threatened to summon Apple’s app‑policy chief to court. Epic believes a looming transparency ruling will expose Apple’s so‑called junk fees. With the Ninth Circuit reversing a stay, the case now asks whether Apple can charge commissions on external purchases for developers and users worldwide.

Australia remains the only market where Fortnite is absent, as an Australian court ruled many of Apple’s developer terms unlawful yet Apple keeps enforcing them. Epic awaits a court order to compel compliance. The company also cites growing regulatory pressure in Japan, the EU, and the UK, where it accuses Apple of evading laws with scare screens, fees, and requirements.
