Apple previewed a wave of accessibility updates coming to iOS 27, macOS 27, and visionOS 27, timed ahead of Global Accessibility Awareness Day and WWDC. Apple Intelligence powers deeper image descriptions in VoiceOver and Magnifier, plus natural language voice control that lets users say things like "tap the guide about best restaurants" instead of memorizing exact button labels.

The Accessibility Reader now handles complex layouts with multiple columns, images, and tables, while offering on-demand summaries and translation. Auto-generated subtitles will appear across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Vision Pro for uncaptioned video. Name Recognition alerts deaf or hard-of-hearing users when someone says their name across more than 50 languages.

Perhaps the boldest addition is Wheelchair Control in Apple Vision Pro, using eye-tracking to operate compatible power wheelchairs via Tolt and LUCI drive systems. Other updates include face gesture support in visionOS, Sony Access controller compatibility, and an expanded sign language interpretation API for FaceTime. Apple's accessibility push reflects Tim Cook's long-standing emphasis on privacy-by-design assistive tech.
