Liquid Metal Future for iPhone Pro

Apple continues developing liquid metal for future iPhone Pro frames as a potential replacement for aluminum and standard titanium. The company introduced titanium with the iPhone 15 Pro series in 2023 but faced overheating issues, leading to aluminum compromises in the current iPhone 17 Pro models. According to leaker Instant Digital, Apple is exploring both liquid metal and improved titanium alloys to address thermal conductivity concerns while maintaining durability.

Liquid metal, an amorphous material Apple has explored for over 15 years, offers high strength, corrosion resistance, and malleability. Apple reportedly plans to use this material along with revised titanium alloys in its first foldable iPhone expected this year. The material aims to enhance screen flatness and minimize crease marks in foldable displays while reducing weight compared to existing titanium frames.

Achieving mass production of liquid metal remains extremely difficult, though costs may decrease once manufacturing for foldable devices is established. However, consumers shouldn't expect these advanced materials to appear in the iPhone 18 Pro models, as manufacturing materials for those devices are already locked in. Apple continues weighing material options for future Pro frames beyond the upcoming foldable device.
