Apple's Studio Display XDR 120Hz Support Limited to Newer Macs

Apple's new Studio Display XDR features a mini-LED display with up to 120Hz refresh rate, but only newer Macs can access this capability. According to Apple, Macs with M1 through M3 chips will be limited to 60Hz, while M2 Pro and later chips support the full 120Hz experience.

For iPad users, only the M5 iPad Pro can run the display at 120Hz, with all other compatible models capped at 60Hz. The Studio Display XDR starts at $3,299, compared to the standard Studio Display at $1,599, making the refresh rate limitation a significant factor for potential buyers.

The display will be available for pre-order tomorrow at 9:15 a.m. Eastern Time, launching March 11. Users with older Apple silicon Macs or iPads should carefully consider whether the XDR's other features justify the premium price, as they won't benefit from the higher refresh rate.
