Studio Display 2 May Miss Key Upgrade

Apple is rumored to be releasing a new Studio Display sometime in the first half of the year, its first update since 2022. However, there's speculation the new display might not include a 120Hz refresh rate. Instead, sources suggest a 90Hz refresh rate due to potential bandwidth limitations with Thunderbolt 5 connections.

This refresh rate speculation has come up before. A previous tip suggested Apple may be aiming for 90Hz on the next-gen M3 iPad Air as well. The original Studio Display offered a standard 60Hz refresh rate. A higher refresh rate offers smoother motion and a more responsive feel, particularly useful for gaming and fast-paced content.

Conflicting reports make it difficult to know what to expect. Some reports have cited internal builds of iOS 26, which may or may not be the final product. Mark Gurman at Bloomberg expects the new Studio Display to launch in the first half of the year. Consumers will have to wait and see what Apple decides.
