Apple's Liquid Glass UI Stays Put in iOS 27, macOS 27

Apple's new Liquid Glass interface, launched across iOS 26 and macOS Tahoe, appears to be a permanent fixture rather than a passing experiment. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, internal builds of iOS 27 and macOS 27 show no major design overhauls to the translucent UI. The design chief Steve Lemay, who joined Apple in 1999, was deeply involved in Liquid Glass's development and is expected to refine it gradually.

This approach mirrors Apple's strategy with iOS 7, which introduced flat design and was refined over subsequent years. Lemay succeeded Alan Dye, who left for Meta at the end of last year. Apple has already added customization options like the "Tinted" mode in iOS 26.1 and a Lock Screen opacity slider in iOS 26.2, giving users some control over the glassy aesthetic.

Gurman notes that Apple initially attempted a system-wide Liquid Glass opacity slider for iOS 26 but encountered engineering challenges. The company may revisit this feature for iOS 27, potentially offering more granular control. With no radical changes planned, users can expect Liquid Glass to remain the visual foundation of Apple's operating systems for the foreseeable future.
