Non-gaming apps drive mobile spending growth in Q2 2026

A new report from Sensor Tower shows that non-gaming apps continued to drive global mobile spending growth in Q2 2026 across iOS and Android, while gaming revenue declined 4.5% year over year. Non-gaming revenue rose 14.6% to $24.4 billion with 25.5 billion downloads, compared to gaming's $19.2 billion revenue and 11.3 billion downloads.

U.S. IAP revenue declined 3% year over year but still led globally at $14.8 billion. China ranked second at $5.98 billion, up 10%. India led downloads with 6.67 billion, up 4%. Generative AI led non-gaming categories with a 108% surge in consumer spend. ChatGPT held roughly 60% category revenue share with 82% growth, while Claude climbed from No. 7 to No. 2 globally.

Dating & Social Discovery fell 11% globally, with the US down 34%, but Latin American markets showed strong growth—Mexico up 41%, Brazil +19%, Argentina +18%. Top downloaded apps were ChatGPT, TikTok, and Instagram. Top IAP revenue apps were TikTok, ChatGPT, and Google One. Claude led breakout apps by IAP revenue growth, jumping to No. 10 overall; Pine Drama led breakout in downloads, climbing to No. 20 worldwide.
