Apple Foldable iPhone Called 'Ultra' Internally?

A new rumor suggests that "everyone" at Apple calls the upcoming foldable iPhone the "iPhone Ultra" internally, according to Mark Gurman. However, this may not be the final marketing name. Apple keeps such details tightly guarded, and the device has been referred to as the iPhone Fold in reports.

Gurman posted on social media that "everyone calls it the Ultra internally," but it's unclear if that name will stick. Naming conventions are unpredictable; previously the iPhone Air was rumored as "iPhone Slim" and the iPhone 16e was thought to be an iPhone SE 4.

The "Ultra" moniker is used for Apple Silicon chips, but the foldable may not be the "best" iPhone — the iPhone 18 Pro Max will still have superior cameras, battery, and cooling. The foldable sits above the Air in the lineup, not above the Pro, but it will likely be the most expensive.

The iPhone 18 Pro and foldable iPhone are expected to be revealed in September, though it's uncertain if the foldable will ship that month.
