Apple is reportedly rebuilding Siri as a full-fledged chatbot for WWDC 2026 to compete with rivals like ChatGPT and Gemini. This overhaul introduces a dedicated app for complex conversations and a new "Search or Ask" interface. The new system uses a custom model based on Google's Gemini after internal efforts allegedly fell short.

Software updates in iOS 27 will let users swap default AI services via a new Extensions feature in the App Store. The Camera app gains a customizable widget tray and better Visual Intelligence for scanning nutrition labels. Photos will add AI tools to extend frames and change perspectives in spatial images.

Hardware support is narrowing as the update purportedly drops the iPhone 11 and second-gen SE. Meanwhile, macOS 27 will only run on Apple silicon, ending support for all Intel-based Macs. Mark Gurman describes this release as a stability-focused update similar to the historic Snow Leopard version.
