Apple won a third jury trial against Texas-based Optis Wireless, with jurors finding no infringement of five LTE patents at the center of a 2019 lawsuit. This verdict spares Apple from potentially hundreds of millions in damages. Apple criticized Optis as a company that makes no products but exists solely to sue tech companies.

The legal battle spans multiple trials and appeals. Optis initially won $506 million in 2020, followed by a $300 million verdict in 2021. Apple successfully appealed both decisions - first because juries didn't understand fair patent terms, then due to incorrect jury instructions. The third trial ends with Apple owing nothing.

The dispute continues beyond US courts. A UK court ordered Apple to pay $502 million, with that appeal heading to the UK Supreme Court in June 2026. Optis is expected to appeal this latest US ruling as well, meaning this patent fight could continue for years despite today's victory for Apple.
