A US jury has ordered Apple to pay $5.7 billion for infringing on patents held by Taction Technology. The patents cover Apple's Taptic Engine, which provides haptic feedback for notifications and interactions. Taction Technology filed the lawsuit in 2021, claiming Apple infringed its patents U.S. Patent No. 10,659,885 and U.S. Patent No. 10,820,117, both related to vibration modules for applying vibrational traction to skin.

The Taptic Engine debuted on Apple Watch in 2014 and arrived on iPhone 6s the following year. Apple disputes the verdict, stating the Taptic Engine is "fundamentally different" from Taction's technology and calling the damages "entirely unsupported by the facts." The company plans to appeal.

Taction Technology, a California-based company focused on sound innovation, noted its Transporter Technology powers Corsair HS60 Haptic headphones. The company expressed satisfaction that the jury vindicated its patent rights after a lengthy legal process.
