Apple Watch Auto Song ID in iOS 27

Ever been in a cafe or shop and wondered what song is playing? The latest Apple Watch models can identify songs automatically. Thanks to a new iOS 27 feature called Music Recognition, the watch uses Shazam to surface the title and artist in the Smart Stack. You don't need to tap anything, and the music doesn't have to be playing on the watch itself.

This feature requires an Apple Watch Series 12 or Apple Watch Ultra 4 paired with an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 27. Older models can still identify songs manually. To enable it, swipe up to open the Smart Stack and check the Music Recognition widget, or manually turn on Music Detection in Settings.

Apple ensures privacy by processing audio in a protected device buffer; only an acoustic signature is sent to Shazam's servers for identification. The song can then be saved to Shazam history or Apple Music with a tap. This automatic identification is one of several new Audio Intelligence features introduced with the latest software updates.
