Apple Watch Series 12 repair gains vs Ultra 4 unchanged

The Apple Watch Series 12 is as easy to repair as its predecessor, but a teardown reveals two repair-friendly changes. The same can't be said for the Apple Watch Ultra 4, which received no meaningful repairability upgrades.

According to an i Fixit teardown, the Apple Watch Ultra 4 "didn't receive a single meaningful repairability upgrade." Sensor-related components can be accessed by removing screws on the back, but battery replacement still requires opening the device screen-first.

The Apple Watch Series 12 battery is now held in place with stretch adhesive, replacing the pry tool removal needed for the Apple Watch Series 11. A new display connector uses a press connector under a bracket instead of the usual ZIF connector.

While these enhancements are welcome, they are not groundbreaking. Apple could have done more, especially with the Apple Watch Ultra 4, but design changes may not come for years.
