Apple has launched the AirTag 2, marking a significant update to its popular tracking device after a five-year gap. The new model retains the familiar design but introduces several key upgrades. Notably, the AirTag 2 features Apple's second-generation Ultra Wideband (UWB) chip, which extends the range of its Precision Finding feature by 1.5 times. This enhancement allows users to locate their AirTag 2 more accurately from greater distances.

The AirTag 2 also includes a 50 percent louder speaker, improving both usability and anti-stalking measures. Precision Finding, previously exclusive to iPhones, is now compatible with the Apple Watch Series 9 and later, as well as the Apple Watch Ultra 2. These updates reflect Apple's commitment to integrating its ecosystem, offering users more flexibility and convenience.

The AirTag 2 maintains the same $29 price point, with a four-pack available for $99, and free engraving included. Despite the enhancements, Apple reiterates that the AirTag 2 is intended for tracking objects, not people or pets, a stance that has sparked debate among users who often repurpose AirTags for pet tracking.

Looking ahead, the AirTag 2 is now available for purchase, with orders set to be delivered starting January 28. This release underscores Apple's strategy of incremental improvements, focusing on usability and integration within its broader ecosystem.
