For existing 2022 owners, the upgrade offers little practical benefit. The 5K panel, 600-nit brightness, and 96W pass-through charging remain unchanged, making the Thunderbolt 5 ports the only significant improvement. These matter primarily for users needing high-speed peripherals or multi-display setups. The 2022 model, now discontinued, remains available at discounts from third-party retailers.

New buyers face a straightforward choice: the 2026 model is the better value at the same price, offering future-proofing through enhanced connectivity and features. However, compatibility requirements differ significantly - the 2026 version requires an Apple silicon Mac (2020 or later), while the 2022 model works with both Intel and Apple silicon machines. For most users without Thunderbolt 5 needs, the discounted 2022 display remains a compelling option.
