Apple has acquired Color.io, the web-based color grading tool created by Jonathan Ochmann. The EU's new acquisition disclosures reveal Apple purchased Patchflyer, Ochmann's one-person company, back in January. Color.io was known for adding film-like color and texture to images using a custom color engine and models, making it popular with photographers and filmmakers.

Ochmann announced Color.io's closure in November 2025, telling users he was joining a company that would let him work at a scale impossible as a solo builder. "After 10+ years of running everything alone, I've reached a point where I need to grow in ways that aren't possible as a solo builder," he wrote. The platform went dark on December 31st, leaving roughly 200,000 users with just five weeks' notice. Ochmann also created the widely-used VisionColor LUTs prior to Color.io.

With Ochmann now on Apple's payroll, his color grading expertise could enhance Final Cut Pro or Pixelmator Pro. Apple also acquired PromptAI during the same timeframe, a computer vision startup behind the Seemour app that identifies people, pets, and other objects in home security camera footage.
