Apple Music to Add AI Labels to Songs

Apple sent emails to its music industry partners about the upcoming launch of a Made With AI label that will be applied to AI‑generated content. The label will be visible to all Apple Music users for any track tagged as “materially generated using AI.”\n\nIn March Apple introduced optional Transparency Tags allowing creators to disclose AI use in artwork, track, composition (lyrics) and music video. The new email states the tags are now required whenever AI creates a material portion of the content, including tracks that are AI‑platform‑generated, defined as anything primarily derived from a generative AI service.\n\nApple Music VP Oliver Schusser told Billboard that more than a third of monthly uploads are 100% AI‑generated, yet AI music accounts for less than 0.5% of actual listening.

Schusser noted Apple has an in‑house detection system but still relies on content makers to disclose AI use. The email did not give an exact date, saying the labels will appear later this year.\n\nApple intends to display the label alongside track information in the Apple Music app, ensuring that listeners can see at a glance whether a song, its lyrics, artwork or video involved AI. The company emphasized that the label does not imply endorsement or judgment of the content’s quality.
