Apple may add MacBook Neo colors amid price pressure

Apple may add new finishes to its MacBook Neo to soften a possible price bump, columnist Tim Culpan writes. The entry‑level laptop, launched at $599, currently ships in Citrus, Blush, Indigo and Silver. With demand far exceeding forecasts, Apple is weighing aesthetic tweaks as a way to keep buyer enthusiasm high in the market overall if component costs rise.

Supply chain strain drives the color talk. Apple has asked Quanta and Foxconn to gear up for 10 million Neo units, double the original 5‑6 million target, pushing factories in Vietnam and China to speed production. The laptop relies on the A18 Pro chip, the same silicon in the iPhone 16 Pro, but early batches used binned chips with a disabled GPU core, inflating the bill of materials.

Rising DRAM prices and tighter 3nm capacity at TSMC add further cost pressure, meaning any price increase would hit consumers directly. Culpan says Apple has not ruled out raising the Neo’s price, but new color options could provide a non‑price lever to sustain demand. Ultimately, the laptop’s popularity may force Apple to absorb higher component costs or shift the pricing model.
