Apple Faces £3 Billion iCloud Class Action

The Competition Appeal Tribunal cleared a £3 billion class action against Apple, allowing the consumer group Which? to sue on behalf of 40 million U.K. iPhone and iPad users. The suit claims Apple locked customers into iCloud since 2015 and charged inflated subscription rates.

Which? argues that Apple limits rival cloud services on its devices, nudging users toward paid tiers after the free 5GB quota. U.K. prices range from 99p for 50GB to £54.99 for 12TB, potentially costing each victim up to £77 if the claim succeeds.

Apple rebuts the allegations, asserting that users may choose alternative storage solutions and that the decision to use iCloud is voluntary. The company plans to appeal the tribunal’s ruling, while the trial is set for October 2028. Eligibility covers anyone who used iCloud between Nov 8 2018 and June 8 2026.

This case signals a high‑stakes challenge to Apple’s business model, testing whether the tech giant can withstand accusations of anti‑competitive practices in its cloud services.
