Apple has halted work on a lower‑cost, lighter Vision Pro model, letting Samsung Display wind down the G‑VR panel project by September. The move follows a shift in Apple’s focus toward smart glasses.

G‑VR,于玻璃基底微 OLED 面板,目标分辨率为 1,600‑1,700 PPI—roughly half the 3,386 PPI of the current Vision Pro. Samsung had planned mass production after 2028, but the project has lost traction as Apple reallocates talent.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman noted that Apple paused its “Vision Air” concept in October 2025 to fast‑track glasses that could compete with Meta’s Ray‑Bans, and the device was officially canceled in May 2026. Gurman also warned that a new Vision Pro‑style headset could be delayed by at least two years.

Meanwhile, Apple refreshed the Vision Pro in October 2025 with an M5 chip and raised the base price from $3,499 to $3,699 as part of broader price hikes across its lineup.
