Apple Consolidates Privacy Email Domains for iCloud and Sign-In

Apple is merging the email domains for Sign in with Apple and iCloud+ Hide My Email. Both services will move to a single private.icloud.com domain later this summer. This change simplifies how the company handles masked email addresses across its ecosystem, replacing the current split between icloud.com and privaterelay.appleid.com.

Most users will notice no difference in their daily experience. Existing email addresses on legacy domains will stay active, and mail forwarding continues without interruption. The shift primarily affects the backend infrastructure by unifying the identity and privacy tools into one consistent domain for all newly generated addresses.

Developers and email service providers face the most work here. They must update account systems, validation logic, and allowlists to accept the new domain. Failing to update routing rules or suppression lists could lead to delivery failures for users utilizing these privacy features. This update forces a technical cleanup for any site using Sign in with Apple.
