Apple has reversed its decision to change the domain for Hide My Email following significant community pushback. According to a new developer document published Monday, the service will remain on icloud.com. This contrasts with Sign in with Apple addresses, which will still migrate to private.icloud.com.

The shift addresses concerns that changing domains could cause chaos for website and email client administrators. While moving Sign in with Apple makes sense given the original addresses were on privaterelay.appleid.com, altering Hide My Email would have required widespread updates to white lists, potentially causing immediate interruptions. Existing email addresses will not change, and forwarding will continue without issue.

A key privacy concern was that placing both services on private.icloud.com might allow websites or providers to blanket ban the domain, rendering the privacy tool useless. By keeping Hide My Email on icloud.com, it retains its effectiveness as aliases mimic standard Apple Account emails. However, users should remember this is not a shield from legal subpoenas or system bugs.
