Apple Camera AirPods May Be 'AirPods Pro'

Apple's camera-equipped AirPods are likely to launch as part of the AirPods Pro lineup rather than as a separate "AirPods Ultra" product.

A file in macOS Tahoe 26.7 referencing the new AirPods is labeled "AirPods Pro," suggesting the naming direction. While this could be a placeholder, the inclusion of a full demo video in the software indicates Apple may be preparing for imminent release.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman previously reported that Apple was considering multiple Ultra-branded devices, including AirPods Ultra. However, he noted that the camera AirPods were expected to be priced higher than the $249 AirPods Pro 3, making the "Pro" designation plausible.

Recent developments show two internal codenames — B790 and B798 — with B790 reportedly closer to launch. The camera functionality will not capture photos or videos but will instead support Siri AI and Visual Intelligence features. The macOS Tahoe 26.7 demo shows a user holding up a book for the AirPods to read, indicating near-final development status.
