Apple’s AirPods Ultra to Add Infrared Cameras for Siri

Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman posted that Apple is developing a new AirPods line equipped with infrared cameras that feed environmental data to Siri. The feature isn’t meant for photo‑shooting; instead it will augment the Visual Intelligence engine on iPhone 15 Pro models and newer. Gurman suggests the product will carry the AirPods Ultra name, positioning it above the current AirPods Pro 3.

Pricing is expected to exceed the $249 tag of the Pro 3, reinforcing the premium branding. Earlier speculation linked the camera‑enabled earbuds to a higher‑end Pro 3 variant, but recent reports indicate a distinct Ultra tier. Analyst Ming‑Chi Kuo had floated “in‑air gesture” control, yet Gurman now doubts any hand‑gesture support will arrive.

Apple appears to be expanding the Ultra moniker, with rumors of an iPhone Ultra and MacBook Ultra slated for the next year. If the earbuds follow the typical September launch window, they could debut alongside a foldable iPhone. Regardless of timing, the addition of infrared vision marks a notable shift in how wearable audio may interact with the broader Apple ecosystem.
