Apple Adds Digital Driver’s License to Virginia in Wallet

Apple expands its digital driver’s‑license feature to 15 U.S. states, adding Virginia to the roster that already includes Arkansas, Arizona, and California.

Virginia residents will soon register their licenses in the Wallet app, selecting the state from a list and following on‑screen steps. The move follows a 2025 announcement by the Virginia DMV that the state would support the feature.

Digital IDs appear at TSA checkpoints across U.S. airports, letting travelers verify age and identity without a physical card. Law enforcement still requires a paper ID, so carrying a driver’s license remains necessary.

The rollout underscores Apple’s push into identity services, broadening Wallet’s utility beyond payments while keeping physical IDs in play for law‑enforcement purposes.
