Xiaomi has officially announced its global launch event for the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra on February 28 in Barcelona, just ahead of Mobile World Congress. The event, scheduled for 2 PM local time, will showcase what the company calls 'The New Wave of Imagery,' strongly suggesting the flagship Ultra model will make its international debut.

The announcement confirms earlier rumors about the launch date and location. Alongside the two smartphones, Xiaomi is expected to unveil the Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro, Xiaomi Tag, and Xiaomi Watch 5 at the same event. However, the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max models appear to be China-exclusive, missing out on the global launch despite their rear screen features.

According to recent reports, the global variants will maintain the same pricing as their predecessors in Europe and will be nearly identical to Chinese models, with one notable difference: battery capacity. The Xiaomi 17 will feature a 6,330 mAh battery compared to 7,000 mAh in China, while the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will have 6,000 mAh versus 6,800 mAh. This slight reduction in battery size for international markets has already sparked discussion among potential buyers, particularly regarding eSIM functionality.
