Samsung Teams with Alcedis to Turn Wearable Health Data Into Clinical Research

Samsung is partnering with clinical research firm Alcedis to bridge consumer health data from its wearable devices with pharmaceutical research. The collaboration will leverage the widespread adoption of Samsung's Galaxy Watch and other wearables, which already monitor users continuously throughout the day.

Alcedis will handle the heavy lifting of collecting, analyzing, and translating raw biometrics into clinically meaningful evidence. While consumer wearables generate massive amounts of health data, most of it lacks the validation needed for medical research. This partnership aims to solve that translation problem.

The companies will focus on bioelectrical impedance analysis and electrodermal activity measurements, plus data related to obstructive sleep apnea and atrial fibrillation. These biometrics represent some of the most common health conditions that consumers track, but lack standardized clinical interpretation.

Samsung brings the hardware reach—millions of users already wearing its devices—while Alcedis contributes the clinical expertise to make that data actionable for drug development and medical studies. The partnership could accelerate clinical trials by providing researchers access to validated real-world health data at scale.
