Samsung splits Galaxy Z Flip8 chip by region, Exynos in Europe, Snapdragon elsewhere

Samsung maps the Galaxy Z Flip8’s chipset split across the globe. South Korea and Europe will run the Exynos 2600, while every other market gets a Qualcomm processor. The move follows last year’s exclusive Exynos 2500 strategy, which surprised U.S. buyers who normally favor Snapdragon devices.

Samsung’s MX division says the Flip line prioritizes design over peak performance, easing the burden of in‑house APs. By using a cheaper Exynos 2600 versus a flagship Snapdragon, Samsung aims to lift margins hurt by rising RAM and flash costs. The strategy also strengthens its LSI and foundry businesses.

Consumers face a Flip8 that keeps last year’s camera stack and adds a crease‑free hinge, but offers no battery or charging upgrade. The Galaxy Z Flip8 will also launch alongside the Fold8 and Fold Wide next month, slated for July 22. In contrast, the S26 line uses Snapdragon 8 Elite in North America, China and Japan.

With the Exynos 2600 already underperforming the Snapdragon in S26 reviews, the Flip8’s lack of battery improvements could hurt its appeal. Samsung’s insider hinted that Exynos will spread to more models next year, possibly the S27 and S27+. The company’s chip split strategy underscores a broader push to balance cost and performance across its foldable lineup.
