Samsung has announced a major update to its SmartThings platform, enabling direct integration with IKEA smart home devices without requiring separate hubs. The new streamlined setup allows users to connect 25 IKEA smart products to their SmartThings ecosystem. This partnership represents a significant step toward creating a more unified smart home experience across different brands.

The compatible IKEA devices include various sensors for temperature, humidity, air quality, motion, and door monitoring, along with smart bulbs, plugs, and the BILRESA scroll wheel remote. The remote can control light brightness and color temperature, as well as adjust smart blinds to precise levels. An automation example shows how an IKEA air quality sensor can trigger a Samsung air conditioner's dehumidification mode when humidity levels rise.

This integration becomes possible through the Matter protocol, which enables cross-platform compatibility. Samsung previously partnered with Google for similar ecosystem integration. These developments demonstrate how industry standards are simplifying smart home setups for consumers, reducing complexity while expanding device options within the SmartThings ecosystem.
