Samsung announced its Now Brief feature is arriving in SmartThings, offering AI-powered home recaps for users with Samsung TVs 2024 or newer. The update integrates with smart locks, appliances, Family Care, and Pet Care, delivering personalized insights about home activity, energy usage, and security status. Family Care gains enhanced caregiving tools, including activity monitoring for aging parents and medication reminders tied to connected devices.

Now Brief leverages Galaxy AI to provide real-time updates via SmartThings, even when users are away from home. Features like Home Insight, Energy Monitoring, and Sleep Environment tracking expand its utility beyond TV interactions. For example, it can alert users if a family member’s usual TV usage pattern changes or if appliances exceed energy thresholds. The rollout begins with Galaxy S26 series phones and expands to Family Hub refrigerators (2021+ models) and other 2024 TVs in phases.

Activation occurs automatically when users approach their TV, eliminating manual setup. This builds on Samsung’s existing SmartThings ecosystem, which already supports device automation and health monitoring. By embedding Now Brief into TVs, Samsung aims to position its displays as central hubs for home management, competing with platforms like Apple HomeKit.

The update reflects broader trends in smart home integration, where TVs evolve from entertainment centers to command centers for IoT devices. While privacy concerns around activity tracking persist, Samsung emphasizes optional data sharing. For families, the combination of Now Brief and Family Care could redefine proactive caregiving, though adoption may hinge on user comfort with AI-driven surveillance.
