Samsung eyes S Pen for next-gen TriFold

Samsung's discontinued Galaxy Z TriFold may soon return in a refreshed form, according to a patent filed by the Korean giant. The document sketches a trifold that tucks a dedicated S Pen into a magnetic slot, charging the stylus while stored, much like the system on the Galaxy S26 Ultra. If realized, the addition would give future foldables true pen support.

Industry leaks have already hinted that Samsung aims to make the next Z TriFold 2 slimmer and lighter than its predecessor, a goal that complicates housing a pen. The patent proposes narrowing the left arm of the folding screen to create a pocket, which would shift the device’s visual balance. Engineers would have to reconcile reduced chassis volume with reliable magnetic charging.

Even though patents rarely translate directly into retail products, the sketch signals Samsung's intent to blend productivity tools with its foldable lineup. Consumers craving note‑taking or illustration capabilities would finally find a native pen experience without a separate accessory. Should the design survive engineering constraints, the next generation trifold could redefine how Samsung competes in the premium foldable market.
