nubia Neo 5 GT Gaming Phone: Fan and RGB, but Dimensity 7400 Underwhelms

nubia's new Neo 5 GT gaming phone debuts at MWC with a built-in cooling fan and RGB lighting, but its €400 price tag raises questions about the choice of a Dimensity 7400 chipset. The phone targets Southeast Asia first, competing in a market where gaming phones with active cooling are becoming more affordable.

The Neo 5 GT features a 6.8-inch OLED display with 144Hz refresh rate, matching the RedMagic 11 Air's screen quality. It includes 12GB LPDDR5 RAM, 512GB storage, and a 6,210mAh battery with 80W fast charging. The design incorporates shoulder triggers with 550Hz sampling rate and IP64 ingress protection, though the cooling duct only achieves IP5X rating.

While the RGB lighting and aggressive gaming aesthetic are on point, the Dimensity 7400 chipset feels like a significant compromise at this price point. For just €100 more, consumers can get the Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered RedMagic 11 Air, which offers substantially better performance. The Neo 5 GT's cooling system may help the mid-range chipset run more efficiently, but it's unlikely to close the performance gap against flagship processors.
