Apple Watch Series 12 and Watch Ultra 4 are gaining two controversial AI features, Live Rewind and Siri Recap, in the first watch OS 27.3 developer beta. Live Rewind displays text snippets of the last 15 seconds of audio when the Digital Crown is double-pressed, allowing users to ask Siri or save the snippet. It provides audible chimes and visual indicators to notify those nearby.
Siri Recap ambiently records conversation highlights, generating titles and key points in the Siri app without creating full transcripts or attributing speech to specific speakers. Apple designed the feature to omit sensitive data like financial identifiers, deletes recaps after seven days unless saved, and allows scheduling by time and location. Both features process audio on-device or via Private Cloud Compute, with Apple guaranteeing no audio recordings are created.
The functions are opt-in, require a Series 12 or Ultra 4 paired with an iPhone 16 or newer (excluding the iPhone 16e) with Apple Intelligence, and are currently English-only. They are unavailable in the EU due to Siri AI restrictions and restricted to users over 13. A public beta is expected before a full rollout.
