Xbox Expands Thumbstick Topper Lineup with Durable ‘Goal Post’ Design

Microsoft unveiled an expanded line of Xbox thumbstick toppers at its Ability Summit, adding a seventh shape for players with disabilities. The redesign focuses on durability and grip during intense sessions, responding to community feedback. The new “goal post” topper, resembling an NFL target, joins existing plate, dome, narrow stick, pull, sphere, and a custom base for moldable materials today.

Microsoft launched the accessibility program in 2024, and today’s update marks its first major revision. Files for all seven designs are free on the Xbox Design Lab site, launching on Thursday, May 21, Global Accessibility Awareness Day. Gamers must still own a 3D printer to produce the toppers, but the open‑source files lower the entry barrier for players everywhere today.

By expanding its accessory lineup, Microsoft signals a commitment to inclusive gaming beyond hardware. The goal‑post design offers a more stable grip, potentially reducing fatigue for long sessions, while the free, printable files empower users to customize their controllers. This move positions Xbox as a leader in adaptive tech, setting a benchmark for future console accessibility initiatives.
