Microsoft's Compact Xbox Cloud Controller Leaks With 8BitDo Competition

Microsoft appears to be developing a compact Xbox controller designed specifically for cloud gaming, according to leaked images from Portuguese site Technoblog. The unreleased device borrows design cues from the 8BitDo SN30 Pro but maintains traditional Xbox layout elements like offset thumbsticks and a familiar d-pad configuration.

Unlike 8BitDo's approach, Microsoft's controller features ergonomic grip protrusions on the bottom and will ship in both black and white colorways. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth, and USB-C, while the internal specs feature a Realtek RTL8730E SoC paired with a 500 mAh built-in battery instead of traditional AA batteries.

This move positions Microsoft to compete directly with third-party manufacturers in the growing cloud gaming accessory market. The company's entry suggests confidence in Xbox Cloud Gaming's expansion and desire to control the complete ecosystem experience.

For consumers, a first-party compact controller could mean better integration with Xbox services and potentially more competitive pricing than premium third-party alternatives.
